Welcome to PEOPLES Occupational Therapy!

At PEOPLES Occupational Therapy we work in partnership with families, schools and the children and young people who use our services to enable participation in everyday activities (which we call ‘occupations’). We set collaborative goals based on your priorities and work with you to meet these using the best evidence to develop you/your child’s skills, adapt the occupation, and/or adapt the environment to facilitate participation.

PEOPLES is an acronym for what we consider together:

Person

What skills do you/your child have already, and which need developing?

Environment

What aspects of the environment are helping you/your child, and which are creating barriers?

What aspects of the activity (which we call ‘occupation’) are achievable for you/your child, and which are not?

Occupation

Where do your/your child’s important occupations take place (e.g., home, school, university)?

Participation

What do you/your child want to participate in for fun (e.g., socialising, riding a bike, joining a sports team)?

Leisure

What do you/your child want to be able to do for school, higher education or work (e.g., note taking, revising, scissor use)?

Education/Employment

What do you/your child want to do to look after yourself (e.g., toileting, teeth brushing, preparing meals)?

Self-care

PEOPLES Occupational Therapy work with all people with and without diagnosis and are especially trained in supporting children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder/Dyspraxia). We also specialise in school services working in partnership with educators to create inclusive school environments to support children with a range of needs.
