Top tips for dealing with exam stress

Exams and assessment can be a stressful time. Whilst trying to do your best it is also important to look after your mental health. Below are some tips to help you manage your stress level.

1. Make a studying timetable‍ ‍

Breaking your work up into realistic chunks can help you to structure your time. It can also make the task of ‘revision’ less daunting and more achievable. It can also ensure that you are not dedicate all your hours to working!

2. Make sure you have dedicated time for leisure activities

Having time to see your friends, watch tv, or play your favourite computer game gives your brain much needed down time. This can help to reduce stress and support your brain to take in more information the next time you study.

3. Prioritise sleep

Sleep is really important not only for your overall health and wellbeing but also for the retention of the information you are studying! Try to go to bed at a similar time every night and wake up at a similar time every morning.

4. Move your body

Moving your body in whatever way is enjoyable and comfortable for you can help to reduce stress. This can be walking your dog, playing a sport, or running around with a younger sibling. Try to also have frequent movement breaks whilst you are studying (e.g. having a stretch, walking to make tea).

5. Focus on yourself, not what other people are doing

Everyone is different and will revise differently. Do what works for you and do not compare yourself too others.
